A 32-year-old man from Lonely Park in Mahikeng who stands accused of raping an 11-year-old girl has decided to exercise his constitutional right and apply for bail.
This after abandoning the bail application during his previous court appearance last month. The man appeared for the fourth time at the Molopo Magistrate Court in Mahikeng on Tuesday.The accused, who cannot be named yet, is facing a charge of raping the minor.
According to the police in Mmabathothe minor’s mother woke up in the middle of the night and when she looked for her boyfriend she found him naked on top of the child.
The accused, through his legal representative, told the court that he would provide an address where he will reside should the court grant him bail, adding that he will stay with a friend in Magogoe village, also in Mahikeng.
The man remains in custody until 10 October when he will appear in court again for a bail application.
