On Tuesday, Sergeant Batho Mogola refuted claims that two of the individuals charged with Senzo Meyiwa’s murder had been forcibly detained and tortured in order to extract confessions.
The defense highlighted what they consider to be the police’s strategy for detaining the suspects in the football star’s murder.
The defense also presented Sergeant Mogola, one of the case’s investigators, with a cross-examination.
Mogola rejected allegations that the accused were forced to sign confessions, maintaining that they were never physically abused.
Advocate Thulani Mngomezulu, their attorney, informed Mogola that this was how her team operated.
“The offenses for which they are being detained are not being looked into. Rather, they are looking into Senzo Meyiwa’s death.”
Sergeant Vusumuzi Mogane said earlier this month in court that they arrested Ntanzi for the murder of Nongoma even though they knew he was suspected of being involved in the murder of Meyiwa.
Sibiya and Ntanzi signed confessions shortly after their arrests, but charges for the football heroes’ murders weren’t brought until several weeks later.
