Orlando Pirates have been laughing the loudest and longest at Kaizer Chiefs’ outburst during the Nedbank Cup semifinal draw.
Pirates advanced to the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday by defeating Amakhosi 2-1 at FNB Stadium. They will face Sekhukhune United.
Chiefs were photographed wildly celebrating their semi-final matchup with Pirates before Saturday’s game at FNB. The jubilant scenes showed an overconfident Amakhosi team prepared to slaughter its longtime foes.
When Amakhosi learned that Pirates would be their opponent in the semi-finals after they had just defeated Royal AM in the quarter-finals, Amakhosi coach Arthur Zwane even attempted to temper their celebrations at Chatsworth Stadium.
However, the Buccaneers are currently making fun of their former rivals because they will not go out without a win.
The chance for the Pirates to end the season strongly currently exists. They only need to finish in second place in the Premier Soccer League to guarantee themselves a seat in the Caf Champions League for the upcoming season.
They would complete a double by winning the Nedbank Cup, and coach Jose Riveiro will dispel the skeptics who referred to him as a “plumber” when he initially came to South Africa in June of last year.
