After retiring from football due to an injury misdiagnosis, former Cape Town City captain Lebogang Manyama returns to the game.

On Tuesday the Cape Town based club announced the appointment of the former midfielder as assistant coach to Eric Tinkler.

“Cape Town City are delighted to confirm the appointment of former club captain Lebogang Manyama as an assistant coach in Eric Tinkler’s technical team. Welcome home, Lebza!” the club said on its socials.

Manyama, 33, had to retire from professional football earlier this year due to a knee injury, he posted on social media that a misdiagnosis of an anterior cruciate ligament tear had been the reason to hang up his boots.

He had a colourful career spanning over a decade, where he played for Ajax Cape Town, SuperSport United, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Cape Town City, Konyaspor and Kaizer Chiefs.

“Kaka” as he is affectionately called in the football circles, will be on the bench when they visit TS Galaxy in their DStv Premiership encounter at Mbombela Stadium this evening at 7.30pm.

“I’m delighted to join this technical team. I have so many great memories here with coach Eric, and I always said I would be back one day to add more success. This club is home to me,” he said.
