The Minister of Sport, Zizi Kodwa, has announced a new Boxing South Africa (BSA) board, tasked with restoring the integrity of boxing in the country.

The appointment follows last week’s consultation meeting between Kodwa and other BSA stakeholders, on prospective candidates to serve on the board.

These appointments conclude a seven-week roadmap that was followed to appoint the new BSA board. On Friday, 10 May 2024, the Minister consulted BSA stakeholders on prospective candidates of the BSA board.

In addition to the meeting, Kodwa also invited all stakeholders in their organised or individual capacities to submit written comments to the Department for his consideration.

The BSA board has been given the task of revitalising Boxing in South Africa, and to ensure that the sport in the country returns to the great heights it once scaled. The Minister encourages the board to come up with a renewal and recovery strategy, and to ensure good corporate governance and ethical leadership at BSA.

The newly appointed members of the BSA board, which includes a boxing promoter, communication specialist, journalist, and sports psychologists, are Sifiso Shongwe (Chairperson), Dr Koketso Tsebe, Romy Titus, Nandi Mheshe, Sakhiwe Sodo, Dr Luvuyo Precious Bayeni and Luxolo September.

The Minister wished the new members all the very best in their tenure.

“The time has come for all leadership, managers, trainers, and boxers to put all squabbles behind.

I urge the South African boxing fraternity to return to the arenas and boxing, and to lift boxing in South Africa,” said Kodwa.

The Minister also thanked Mandla Ntlanganiso, who has steered the ship at BSA as acting CEO and Accounting Authority.

The new board’s mandate will end in May 2027.
