ActionSA has withdrawn from the Multi-Party Charter (MPC) with other parties that include the Democratic Alliance, Inkatha Freedom Party and the African Christian Democratic Party amongst others.
The party said it felt betrayed after the parties declared that they’re willing to negotiate with the ANC to form a coalition government, despite initially agreeing not to work with the ruling party. The party held a media briefing in Johannesburg, on the outcomes of its Senate meeting.
“ActionSA’s Senate has deliberated on our relationship with other political parties going forward. This process has resolved that ActionSA will leave the Multi-Party Charter because of the serious breach by those parties who publicly signed and campaigned under an agreement which expressly ruled out working relationships with the ANC,” said the party’s national Chairperson, Michael Beaumont.
The party however said it will continue to honour its commitment to be an alternative from the ANC and will not entertain any working relationship with the ANC at any level of government.
“As such we will remain in the City of Tshwane government in its current configuration. But we’re prepared to vacate that government and be a constructive opposition should the politics of the clay return the ANC to the capital,” warned Beaumont.
ActionSA earlier this week announced that Beaumont and its president Herman Mashaba will not be deployed to parliament where it managed to obtain six seats but will instead focus to build the party for the 2026 local government elections.
