The leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng, Solly Msimanga, claims that the impasse in talks between his party and the African National Congress (ANC) over the formation of a Government of Provincial Unity will have a detrimental effect on the province’s ability to provide services.

The two sides are still at odds and have not come to a consensus about the makeup of the executive council.

The DA claims that the ANC is adamant on granting it three Cabinet positions in the Gauteng government while retaining the Premier and the other seven seats.

It claims that the proportionality clause is broken by this. Msimanga has voiced worries about the protracted process of establishing a provincial administration.

“It’s regrettable that this is delaying decision-making and moving forward with the government program,” he states. As you are aware, there are numerous concerns regarding safety and security in Gauteng, including crumbling infrastructure, schools, hospitals, and clinics. We are deeply troubled by these issues. Furthermore, the government’s capacity to provide services to the populace is impacted if there is a lack of political leadership to direct the program.”
