Apart from food, dance and sports, another way to capture the hearts of Mzansi is through song and what better way to do it than with the national anthem.

Singer and former 7de Laan actor, Keabetswe “KB” Motsilanyane did exactly that when she was performing the rendition of the national anthem at the opening ceremony of the two-legged Test series match between the Springboks and Ireland at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on Saturday.

Clad in the green colours of the Bokke, KB delivered exceptional and powerful vocals of the five languages encompassed in the song.

It was the last part that got the more than 50 000 fans in tears, when she opened her arms and allowed them to sing along.

“Sounds the call to come together, and united we shall stand.

Let us live and strive for freedom, in South Africa our land,’’ bellowed the whole stadium.

Social media beamed with pride and complemented KB for her stellar performance.

@mooloomm commented “Can you please have KB sing the national anthem every single time South Africa plays any sport?”

“KB Motsilanyane understood the assignment.

She is the girl that she knows she is,” said @Lovelle_Black72.

“KB Motsilanyane’s rendition of the national anthem and how she let the crowd finish the anthem was spellbinding,” exclaimed @kaymorizm.

The iconic opening ended in victory for the Boks, as they broke Ireland’s six-year-long winning streak by 27-20.

The countries will conclude the Test series on Saturday 13 July at the Kings Park stadium in Durban.

Meanwhile, KB has described the moment and compliments from South Africans as humbling.
