Angry residents torch Pastor Mboro’s church

Angry community members, mostly learners, have torched the Incredible Happenings Ministries church in Katlehong, which belongs to Pastor Paseka Motsoeneng, popularly known as Pastor Mboro.

The residents said this was in reaction to yesterday’s incident, where Mboro and his accomplices, were seen in a video wielding pangas and an AK-47 rifle, threatening pupils and staff at the Matshidiso Primary School in Katlehong, before forcefully removing two learners from the school.

While leaving the school premises, an agitated Mboro can also be seen swinging the panga towards the staff and community members who were trying to prevent them from taking the learners.

Before setting the church on fire, some learners and community members were seen removing chairs, speakers, cables and other items from the premises.

Despite the police station situated a few metres away from the burning church, they however didn’t react to the incident.

Meanwhile, Gauteng Police have confirmed that a fifth person has been arrested, following yesterday’s acts of intimidation and violence at the said school.

“The four were arrested last night and will appear in the Palm Ridge court in due course.

They are facing a variety of charges including assault, handling a firearm recklessly that could endanger lives and property, rendering security services while not registered, malicious damage to property and intimidation.

The replica firearm and the pangas have since been confiscated. One of the suspects was arrested for assaulting the Station Commander at Katlehong North police station when a group of people were demanding to deal with the local Pastor outside the police station,” read a police statement.

Meanwhile, Police Minister, Senzo Mchunu and his counterpart at the Basic Education Department, Siviwe Gwarube, have condemned the incident.
