The 22-time Grand Slam champion, Rafael Nadal has officially confirmed the much-anticipated decision regarding his participation at the US Open to be held at the Flushing Meadows in New York, from 26 August to 8 September 2024.

The former world number one announced through a post on his X account that he withdrew from the US Open, which he last played in 2021.

“Hi all, writing today to let you guys know that I have decided not to compete at this year’s US Open, a place where I have amazing memories.

I will miss those electric and special night sessions in NYC at Ashe, but I don’t think I would be able to give my 100% this time.

Thanks to all my US Fans in particular, I will see you another time. Best of luck to all for the amazing US Open,” wrote Nadal.

Despite some injury setbacks since his comeback from a successful surgery on his left hip, Nadal has shown a lot of resilience.

Following his recovery, he only played the 2024 French Open where he suffered a first-round exit.

He was then forced to miss the Australian Open and pulled out of Wimbledon in preparation for the Olympics.

Nadal wrapped up his Olympics career with a loss against gold medalist, Novak Djokovic in the men’s singles second round.

The back and forth he experienced with injuries and exiting competitions prematurely, has led to a lot of speculation about his retirement, which he is yet to confirm.

Despite the news of not competing in the US Open, Nadal hinted that he will be preparing for the Laver Cup in Berlin scheduled for September this year.
