The Department of Home Affairs has deported 95 Libyans who were arrested in White River, Mpumalanga, to their country.

They’re flight, which has been paid by the Libyan government, departed from the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport today.

Home Affairs Minister, Dr Leon Schreiber, welcomed the swift conclusion of the deportation.

“I commend the Home Affairs officials and other law enforcement officers who worked tirelessly to ensure an expeditious deportation.

We will continue to deploy all resources at our disposal to ensure that the country’s immigration laws are respected and observed,” said Schreiber.

The Libyans were arrested at a military camp near White River last month for contravention of the Immigration Act.

The National Prosecuting Authority has since dropped the charges against the men citing lack of insufficient evidence.
