MK announce leadership and rules out conference

uMkhonto Wesizwe Party has remained steadfast on its decision not to hold an elective conference anytime soon fearing infiltration.

The party announced a leadership structure called the National High Command which is headed by former President Jacob Zuma as President and includes former EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu who was unveiled as National Organiser at a media briefing held in Johannesburg on Thursday.

“Once again we want to make it clear that we are not going to be having an elective conference anytime soon because that could divide us so the leadership that we are announcing here will be responsible for the running of MKP,” said newly appointed Secretary General Sifiso Maseko.

Maseko is expected to work closely with Shivambu in setting up party structures across the country. Maseko said provincial leadership structures will soon be announced along with regional and sub-regional structures including ward based units in preparation for future elections.

The MKP has had constant change of leadership including the mass recall of MPs less than a month after they were sworn in and Maseko said the party intends on ensuring consistency in leadership.

“We promise you that there will not be constant changes in leadership and that the national high command as we are introducing here today will be leading us as we build the party,” said Maseko.

Shivambu himself praised MKP for “assembling the best of the best among Africans” to govern a country. What has a Brian Molefe achieved in PIC, Eskom and Transnet, what has a Siyabonga Gama achieved in Transnet. We are talking about successfully running what are otherwise huge and complex institutions. The former SARS Commissioner Moyane for example. We were misled by the right wing white media that there was capture but we have since become aware of the lie. They say capture because they as white monopoly capital were no longer in control of key institutions. We are not here to subjectively gain nor are we desperate for positions,” said Shivambu at the briefing.
