Four people have died, and three others injured after a fire gutted an abandoned building in Jeppestown, Johannesburg in the early hours of Sunday morning.
According to the City of Johannesburg Emergency Services (EMS) the fire has been extinguished which happened in the early hours Sunday at the corner of Jannie and Jules Streets.
“We had about four people who lost their lives during the incident, three people were injured, one critically and was taken to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital for further medical care.
At this stage, the cause of the fire is believed to be an illegal connection.
It is an abandoned building and they’re using all sorts of materials to try and divide this building.
Partitions to create space so that they can be able to leave here” said EMS spokesperson, Robert Mulaudzi
Mulaudzi added that the building has been handed over to SAPS for further investigations.
