Temba Bavuma fit to lead the team against Sri Lanka

Proteas Test captain Temba Bavuma is hoping to change his team’s fortunes when they face Sri Lanka in a two-match Test series from next Wednesday.

The first leg will kick off from 27 November to 01 December in Durban which will be followed by the last long-format match scheduled for 05 and 09 December in Gqeberha.

Bavuma returned to the team following a lengthy recovery from an elbow injury which he described as very daunting.

“It definitely has played in my mind.

When you’re injured and you start in a rehab process it’s always tough.

It’s just about trying to get over all those mental demons and get yourself into a space where you accept what it is that is happening, and you try to deal with it.

It has been a tricky couple of weeks,” said Bavuma.

The captain missed the action against Bangladesh last month, when the team won the series by 2-0, and made history by becoming the first Proteas side to win a Test match in a decade on the Indian subcontinent.

A 14-man squad was announced on Tuesday with the inclusion of Marco Jansen, Tristan Stubbs, Kagiso Rabada and Aiden Markram amongst others.

A win of at least three games will earn the Proteas a spot in the finals of the ICC Test Championship to be held in England next year.

After Sri Lanka, they are set to face Pakistan in another two-match clash in Centurion and Cape Town respectively.

Bavuma assured that they will put their best foot forward to create more winning chances.
