Rejection of GNU continues 5 months into its existence

The ANC-DA coalition, commonly known as the Government of National Unity (GNU), continues to be widely rejected within the liberation movement five months into its existence.

The South African Communist Party’s special conference held in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni has seen speakers, one after the other condemning the arrangement the arrangement for various reasons and calling on the ANC to instead seek partnerships with like minded parties.

Mapaila said the GNU was the creation of capital that can never benefit ordinary South Africans.

“The DA is the party of the capitalist forces, the spokesperson of the monopoly capital in this country; it has not the interest of the people in our country,” said SACP General Secretary Solly Mapaila in his political report.

Mapaila said there was no logic in working with the DA when its stated objective is to liquidate the ANC.

He cited among others political party funding to newly formed outfits with no track record which he said were all being financed by the controversial Oppenheimer family through various vehicles including the Brenthurst Foundation.

The Oppenheimer family made its wealth at the back of Africans whom it exploited as underpaid mineworkers and appropriating itself state land.

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi who is also the ANC Provincial Chairperson also used the same platform to bash the former opposition which he excluded from his provincial cabinet.

“We were attacked and insulted. Our sin was that we established a government without bullies. Never and never again will our children be decided for whether they enter a school or not on the basis of the colour of their skin or language,” he said urging President Cyril Ramaphosa not to accommodate the concerns of right wing groupings who are objecting to sections of the BELA Bill and National Health Insurance.
