Rand Water has said it has completed its 86-hour maintenance at the Eikenhof Maintenance Project.

The entity however said that while pumping to its reservoirs resumed on Monday, it will take a while before water reaches the residents taps.

“Residents are reminded that the system will take time to recover.

Water supply won’t be restored immediately, as the system builds capacity.

Low-lying areas will recover first, followed by high-lying areas.

Recovery is also influenced by demand, so we kindly urge residents to use water sparingly as supply resumes,” read a statement from Rand Water.

The project has also affected Rustenburg, the CBD, Cashan, Waterfall Mall, Waterfall East, and Marikana.

The entity sought to assure residents that recovery will improve daily as the system stabilises and more areas regain consistent supply.

It also emphasized that higher-lying areas may take longer as the system gradually builds capacity.

“If the network (pipes, reservoirs, and towers) was heavily depleted, it will take time to refill before water reaches all taps,” read a statement from the entity.

Rand Water said the completion of the maintenance project is an achievement that ensures improved reliability and efficiency in delivering water to communities.

Meanwhile, Johannesburg Water said it’ll continue with its contingency measures.

“Pumping to Johannesburg Water affected towers will only take place once the respective reservoirs have recovered to sufficient levels and where operational intervention will be required, especially removal of airlocks to prevent interruption in flow.

As such, alternative water will continue to be provided for the next few days as and when required, informed by how the systems recover,” said the entity.

Despite this, most residents have lambasted both water entities for failing to provide adequate water tankers during the maintenance period.
