Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, a prominent member of the MK party, has publicly apologised following a scathing social media tirade against Floyd Shivambu, the party’s secretary general. The incident unfolded on social media platform X late Monday night, where Zuma-Sambudla did not hold back her criticisms, calling Shivambu “the worst thing that happened to MK” and labelling him “useless.” In a particularly provocative post, she added a vulgar message directed at him, although she refrained from tagging him in her tweets.
However, her apology, issued on Tuesday, was notably not directed at Shivambu himself. Instead, she expressed regret to her father, former ANC president Jacob Zuma, who is currently serving as the president of the MK party, as well as to the broader party leadership. “While I hold strong and personal views, including serious concerns about internal party matters, my perceptions of how certain issues may be handled within the organisation, especially by the Party’s Secretary General, I fully recognise that such concerns should have been, and shall be addressed through the proper internal channels,” Zuma-Sambudla stated.
In her apology, she acknowledged that airing her grievances publicly was not only unfortunate but also potentially damaging to the unity, discipline, and respect that form the bedrock of the MK party. Her statement seems to reflect a desire to adhere to the core values and principles that the party espouses while recognising the importance of internal cohesion.
