The North West Provincial Disaster Management Centre said it remains on high alert across the province, following heavy rains throughout the province.
This was after the South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued severe weather alerts for disruptive rainfall over the North West until Thursday.
According to the SAWS, heavy on-and-off showers are expected across the North West and Gauteng provinces, including the northern region of Free State, Highveld areas of Mpumalanga and southwestern Limpopo.
The service warned that the localised floods are expected to affect susceptible areas, bridges and roads.
“Currently no major incidents have been reported however some of the roads are flooded.
“The North West Provincial Disaster Management Centre continues to monitor the situation.
Motorists and pedestrians are advised to be extra vigilant and cautious on flooded roads.
“They must also avoid crossing flooded bridges, streams and rivers as it might be dangerous to do so,” said the spokesperson of Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Thebeetsile Keameditse.
To avoid accidents, motorists have been urged to put their headlights on during this period.
The department also called on the public to continue to monitor weather alerts on radio, television and other communication platforms.
In addition, the SAWS advised communities living in low-lying areas and flat plains to be on the lookout for the disruptive rain across the central and eastern regions of the country until Wednesday.
The rainfall accumulation is expected to be in the region of 20 to 50 millimetres.
