President Cyril Ramaphosa said the ANC new membership smart card will help the party in its renewable efforts and eradicate all the ills facing the party.

Ramaphosa was speaking on the sidelines of the party’s three-day National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Boksburg.

“This card and the improved membership system, it’s one part of a broader programme of renewal.

It is also part of a whole rebuilding process that is going to focus on an ANC member,” said Ramaphosa.

According to Ramaphosa, the new smart card has advanced technology, which will permanently keep members’ details and status online.

“A person’s membership status is updated whenever necessary, and a member may also be able to verify their status online, through the ANC membership system, or by tapping the card on the relevant ANC approved device.

It is the most unique card in the world,” explained Ramaphosa.

Ramaphosa said the new card will enable and encourage ANC members to participate more actively and effectively in the activities of the movement, by using the most recent technology.

In addition, Ramaphosa said the new cards will reinforce the integrity of the organisational processes and significantly reduce the opportunities of abuse.

“This new membership card and the organisational system that has been built around it will make an important contribution to rebuilding and renewing our organisation.

For the individual member, the new membership card, should be a source of pride, a reminder of the commitment that each member makes when they join the ANC.

They must remember their membership oath when they joined the party.

Will make the process of joining the ANC more seamless.

It’ll reduce the practice of gatekeeping, which has been one of the ills, corrupt ways that have been utilised to get members to be compromised in terms of being associated with the ANC,” explained Ramaphosa.

In addition, Ramaphosa said the new card will enable the movement to attract the most capable and committed members into its ranks.

It will be used in ANC activities including meetings, General Councils and Conferences to improve our registration and credentials processes.

The card will also enable a member to oversee their participation in the ANC processes without interference or any form of gatekeeping.
