Jermaine Carelse, a spokesperson for the City of Cape Town’s fire and rescue services, acknowledged the precarious situation, highlighting the concerns surrounding the thick, dry vegetation that has been exacerbating the fire’s intensity.
“The situation remains fluid,” Carelse stated, emphasizing the urgency of the response. “We are employing air resources for water bombing and have crews on the ground battling the blaze. Road closures remain in place for public safety, and we urge everyone to stay away from the affected areas.”
