The tragic case of missing Joshlin Smith took another harrowing turn on Friday as the home she once lived in was set ablaze mere hours after a landmark court ruling regarding her disappearance. Judge Nathan Erasmus of the Western Cape High Court sentenced Racquel “Kelly” Smith, her partner Jacquen “Boeta” Appollis, and their friend Steveno van Rhyn for kidnapping and trafficking, stirring emotions in the local community.

As reported by News24, the Western Cape police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie, confirmed that a case of arson has been officially registered, following the fire that obliterated the Smith family’s property. A woman has reportedly been taken in for questioning in connection with the incident, although further details on her involvement have not yet been disclosed.

Local councillor Veronique Pretorius, who has been an outspoken advocate for justice in the case, shared the community’s anguish following the fire. “People in the area are obviously upset that Joshlin was trafficked,” Pretorius stated, highlighting the collective sentiment of a community desperate for justice. The rage and sorrow felt by residents came to a head following the high-stakes court judgement, marking an emotional chapter in an already distressing narrative.

As police continue conducting their investigation into the arson, the community remains vigilant, yearning for answers about Joshlin Smith’s shocking disappearance and longing for a return to safety and normalcy.

This is a developing story.
