The Economic Freedom Fighters has vowed to push for the collapse of the South Africa’s national coalition , the Government of National Unity.
The party has consistently rejected the GNU as serving white interests, demand that the ANC dump the Democratic Alliance and Freedom Front Plus to form accommodate ‘like-minded parties including itself.
This week the EFF accused right-wing groupings such as Afriforum of simply refusing to be led by a black government and of actively encouraging racism in South Africa.
The party’s Gauteng chapter marched on Friday marched on Kleinfontein, the whites only settlement outside Pretoria, demanding it be dismantled.
The march was peaceful and occurred under heavy police presence with the EFF vowing its only the beginning of a campaign to demand that the whites only settlements of Kleinfontein and Orania be dismantled.
The party said the establishment of whites only locations were part of an agenda to undermine the government.
“There is no mass killing of white people, there is no mass murder of white people, but it is the white people who are instigating an agenda against the black government, against a black society, by wanting to mobilise themselves and wanting to entrench racism,by wanting us to accept racial tendencies and racist tendencies. That we will not allow to do. (0:39) Arkawa votes are those who work here, how they are treated. They will tell you that they are always calling the labour desk of the EFFto try and tackle some of their most immediate challenges, because they are being abused here in these farms by white people. That is what is going wrong in South Africa. What is going wrong in South Africa is that 90% of the population are only still sitting in 10% of the land that is allocated. That is what is wrong here in the city of Tshwane and in South Africa,” said EFF Gauteng chairperson Nkululeko Dunga in a fiery speech indicating that’s the message that should be sent to US President Donald Trump.
Dunga said the white dominated private sector was also undermining the government’s efforts to deliver services and promoting racism in South Africa’s white communities.
“There is a collusion of white companies to increase the prices of things such as pipes and pumps, which makes it difficult for the government to buy these things and procure them so that we can have access to water in Tshwane. That is what is wrong in Tshwan. That is what is wrong in South Africa. That is what the EFF is fighting against. They are racists, and they know what they are manufacturing. Other racists, yeah. So we don’t want to speak to anyone from there,” said Dunga.
The move comes as the government bends over backwards to accommodate the insecurities of the US Donald Trump administration with President Cyril Ramaphosa of having directed the City of Joburg to halt the renaming of Sandton drive to Leila Khaled Drive, the Palestinian resistance leader who is the first woman to hijack an aeroplane.
Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said while the renaming was important and justified, doing so now would be I’ll-timed as it could antogonise Washington when it already believes there was white genocide underway.
The City of Tshwane received the EFF’s memorandum and said it was approaching the courts to seek enforcement of a high court order stating that Kleinfontein is an illegal settlement as it was set up on land that’s not for residential purposes.
Legally the president cannot force the metro from taking legal action against Kleinfontein and the municipality said it was continuing with the process.
“The township has been declared illegal by the High Court of South Africa. So currently the city is busy implementing that particular court order. We are simply going to court because the challenge is that the homeowners association here, they don’t want to proceed with the township establishment application so the city is currently preparing the documents to go to court so that the court can be able to appoint the administrator who can be able to do the township establishment here. But secondly, the city is also considering to implement what you call the non-payment usin relation to this area as far as the resident taxes are concerned. The non-payment use is in terms of they need to be able to pay for the resident taxes.Remember it’s an illegal township. It’s not in line with our land use management bylaw. We are currently we are busy with the process. The court instructed us to say, city go and be able to implement your bylaw. So we are currently implementing the bylaw,” said Sello Chipu, the Acting Head of Human Settlements in the City of Tshwane.
Dunga also hinted at leading land invasion in the area, a move that may see Trump proceed with threat of sanctions against leading figures in the government, ANC and the EFF.
“ We’re window shopping. They must know. We’re telling them so that they are aware that the day we come and purchase, we expropriate without compensation, they must not give us problems. Our people must come and farm here because we know they are also farmers,” said Dunga while addressing protesters at Kleinfontein.
