The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) is grappling with shock and sorrow following the tragic assassination of its Deputy Chief Whip, Khethamabala Petros “KP” Sithole, who was fatally shot on Saturday evening in Katlehong, situated on Gauteng’s East Rand. The 68-year-old political veteran’s untimely death marks a significant loss not only for the party but for South African politics at large. In a heartfelt statement, the IFP expressed their profound grief and disbelief at the violent act that took the life of a dedicated servant leader.

Sithole, who had been a fixture of the IFP’s National Council and held multiple leadership roles—including Gauteng Provincial Chairperson—left an indelible mark on his colleagues and the constituents he served. The details of the attack remain murky, prompting fervent calls from the IFP for law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Alongside Sithole’s tragic demise, another IFP member, Alco Ngobese, was wounded during the incident and has been swiftly transported to a nearby medical facility. The scene of the shooting is described as active, with ongoing police investigations aiming to uncover the circumstances surrounding the violence.Khusela Diko, a notable figure in political circles, shared her condolences via social media, reminiscing about Sithole’s character.

“We send our most sincere condolences to the family of Honourable Khethamabala Sithole who passed on today. We may have been in different parties but Jobe was a father to us in our Committee. Ever gentle, ever humble, a key part of the glue that holds us together,” she stated.

Diko further highlighted that the loss reverberated beyond party lines, encapsulating the shared sorrow among political colleagues. The legacy of Khethamabala Sithole as a committed figure in the political landscape is firmly enshrined in the hearts of those who knew him.

The IFP has extended condolences to his family, acknowledging the immeasurable pain that accompanies such a grievous loss. Sithole’s death is a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the ongoing challenges faced within the realm of political leadership in South Africa.
