Liam Jacobs, a 24-year-old MP known for his fearless voice in Parliament, has officially jumped ship from the Democratic Alliance (DA) to the Patriotic Alliance.

Democratic Alliance regards Member of Parliament Liam Jacobs as having effectively expelled himself. This after he joined the Patriotic Alliance overnight.

Jacobs appeared in a live Facebook broadcast with PA leader Gayton McKenzie who is also the Sports and Arts Minister causing a shock on social media.

The move was surprising as it came just days after the two had a heated argument during a parliamentary portfolio committee meeting where Jacobs suggested Mckenzie was a corrupt dictator.

McKenzie welcomed Jacobs into the PA fold, stating during the live broadcast that Jacobs is home.

“ The Democratic Alliance has learned of the fact that Mr Liam Jacobs joined the Patriotic Alliance. we haven’t received any formal resignation letter yet but in terms of the constitution of the Democratic Alliance it is an automatic cessation of your DA membership should you join a different party. The Democratic Alliance wishes Mr Liam Jacobs all of the best with his future endeavours,” said DA spokesperson Willie Aucump in a short reply to Newsnote.

In the Facebook broadcast on Friday night Jacobs said Mckenzie had made him realise how coloured as a major DA support base were being overlooked for positions of responsibility.

The young combative politician was already wearing PA colours when making the announcement alongside Mckenzie and PA MP Ashley Saul.

He joins a long list of non white politicians who left the DA citing racism. Others are Mmusi Maimane who served as the party’s first and only black federal leader, Lindiwe Mazibuko who served as DA Chief Whip in parliament, former youth leader Mbali Ntuli as well as former mayors Randall Williams, Herman Mashaba, Mpho Phalatse, Abel Tau, Steven Mokgalagadi and Bongani Baloyi who are all now pursuing their political ambitions elsewhere.

“Good morning South Africa 🇿🇦

“I am FINALLY free. The fight for truth, accountability and justice CONTINUES!

” I am FINALLY home💚Dankie mense. Dankie! 🥹

“En n GROOT Dankie aan Pres McKenzie en alle Patriots wie my met ope arms en liefde aanvaar het.

“Let’s GO! 💚🇿🇦,” said Jacobs on his X account on Saturday.
