Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has implemented what it described as a comprehensive infrastructure maintenance programme across all nine of its airports.

According to the entity, this is part of reinforcing its commitment to operational excellence and long-term economic growth.

ACSA CEO Mpumi Mpofu said most of the projects are expected to be completed between late 2025 and 2027, adding that they will boost infrastructure development.

“This program is a strong signal of ACSA’s recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic.

It reflects our return to financial sustainability and our ability to reinvest in critical infrastructure that will serve the aviation industry and the broader economy for years to come,” said Mpofu.

The programme will prioritise refurbishments of sewerage systems, ablution facilities and fire escapes.

In addition to this, ACSA said it will also undertake infrastructure upgrades across key operational areas.

These include the Jet Fuel Infrastructure, Passenger Loading Bridges, People Movers, Instrument Landing and Weather Systems, Terminal Roofing Works as well as Fuel Systems and Fire Infrastructure

The entity is adamant that a modernised infrastructure system will help it achieve resilience, growth and address any operational inefficiencies.

ACSA guaranteed travellers and airport users that it will closely work with government, airlines and various commercial stakeholders to oversee the programme and ensure minimal disruptions during this period.
