As excitement builds for the much-anticipated Rugby Championship test match between the Springboks and the Wallabies, the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) has announced a series of additional train services to accommodate fans making their way to the DHL Stadium in Cape Town this Saturday. The initiative is aimed at providing a convenient and affordable travel option for spectators eager to witness the clash of two rugby powerhouses.
According to PRASA spokesperson Andiswa Makanda, these special train services will operate across the Southern and Cape Flats corridors, allowing fans to travel for a mere R20 return fare upon presenting a valid match-day ticket. This move is expected to ease congestion on the roads and offer a more efficient travel experience as thousands of enthusiastic supporters head to the stadium.
“We encourage spectators to arrive early to purchase their return train tickets at the stations,” Makanda stated. “It’s crucial that fans adhere to the train schedules to ensure timely arrival and departure from the stadium, allowing them to enjoy the full ambience of a match day.”
Normal train fares will remain applicable for the regular services throughout Cape Town, but the targeted additional services will specifically cater to matchgoers. This extraordinary effort by PRASA highlights the organisation’s commitment to enhancing the public transport experience, particularly during major events that draw large crowds.
Moreover, attendees who opt to drive to the stadium will have the option to park their vehicles at designated PRASA facilities at a cost of R50 per vehicle. This will provide fans with more flexibility in planning their day, although public transport remains the recommended choice for a smoother travel experience.
With the Springboks and the Wallabies set to battle it out on the field, concerted efforts by transport authorities to support the influx of rugby fans underscore the spirit of unity and celebration surrounding South Africa’s passion for the sport. Spectators are urged to make the most of the special trains and arrive in good time to enjoy what promises to be an exhilarating showdown under the Cape Town sun.
