Mamelodi Sundowns end Kaizer Chiefs’ perfect start in PSL

Amakhosi and the Brazilians battled hard at FNB Stadium on Wednesday night, ultimately sharing the spoils in a tightly contested clash.

The match opened at a high tempo, with Mamelodi Sundowns almost punishing Kaizer Chiefs inside the first ten minutes as Tashreeq Matthews latched onto a loose ball in the box but fired over the bar. Chiefs responded through Wandile Duba, whose header was denied by Ronwen Williams. As the half wore on, Miguel Cardoso’s men took control of possession, with Arthur Sales heavily involved as the creative hub.

Despite being under pressure, Amakhosi came close to snatching the lead just before halftime when Glody Lilepo found space outside the box and unleashed a powerful strike that drew a superb fingertip save from Williams. The sides, however, went into the break deadlocked at 0-0. In the second half, both teams looked to patiently build from the back, making substitutions in the hope that fresh legs could change the game. Chiefs appeared to be the stronger side, keeping Sundowns pinned in their own half for long periods. As the clock ticked down, the battle raged on, but neither side could break the deadlock and the match ended 0-0 with the points shared.

The defending league champions will be on the road for their next assignment against Stellenbosch on Saturday, 30 August. Meanwhile, the Glamour Boys are set to face Golden Arrows at Moses Mabhida Stadium later that same day. Goal.com
