The Patriotic Alliance has pronounced the Deputy President, Kenny Kunene, as not guilty of any wrongdoing after a series of investigations were conducted concerning his presence at the Sandton residence of Katiso Molefe, a businessman facing murder charges. This event unfolded during Molefe’s arrest in July, which triggered significant controversy and led to Kunene’s suspension from the party and his resignation from his position as MMC for Transport in the City of Joburg.

During the incident, Kunene was found at Molefe’s home, who is implicated in the murder of popular music producer Oupa Sefoka, popularly known as DJ Sumbody, alongside his two bodyguards. At the time, Kunene claimed he was merely accompanying a journalist from his online news platform.

Following the completion of an investigation led by legal firm Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyer, the Patriotic Alliance’s President, Gayton McKenzie, expressed his satisfaction with the findings. In a video statement circulated on social media, McKenzie commended Kunene for his conduct during the turbulent period. “To the Deputy President, you have shown absolute leadership,” he asserted. “When you were asked to step down from being an MMC, you asked me, must I also step down as a councillor, and I said yes. You stepped down from being councillor, and you never went out to go and badmouth the party.”

The party is now vocally demanding Kunene’s reinstatement as Transport MMC, with McKenzie hinting at the potential withdrawal from their coalition with the ANC if his appeals are ignored. “You are capable of leading the city,” McKenzie stated, demonstrating his unwavering support for Kunene. “Helen Zille’s expectations for the upcoming local government elections lack any chance for change, whereas Kunene proved himself during his brief tenure in July.”

In response to the conclusion of the investigation and the possible return to his former position, Kunene took to social media platform X to express his gratitude. He thanked God and his supporters, who stood by him during what he described as a challenging phase of his career.
