Three suspected carjackers were killed in a shootout with police in Atteridgeville, located west of Pretoria. The high-stakes confrontation unfolded after law enforcement, bolstered by private security firms, acted on crucial intelligence regarding a group notorious for hijacking incidents in the Pretoria area.
According to a police statement, the operation was meticulously planned, with members of the SAPS highway patrol stationed strategically to monitor the suspects. Upon attempting to apprehend the suspects, the situation escalated quickly; the suspects made a desperate attempt to evade capture, igniting a high-speed chase that culminated in a fierce exchange of gunfire.
While three of the suspects were fatally shot, two others sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital for urgent medical care.
