Cyril Ramaphosa concluded his official visit to Malaysia during which he engaged with industry leaders and attended the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit as a special guest.

During his stay, Ramaphosa used the opportunity to position South Africa as a reliable and attractive investment partner. He held meetings with Malaysian business representatives in Kuala Lumpur, emphasising South Africa’s potential for trade and collaboration across several key sectors.

Invited as a dialogue partner to the ASEAN Summit, the South African head of state also spotlighted the country’s readiness to host the upcoming G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg next month—highlighting that several ASEAN member states will participate.

Ramaphosa underscored the strategic significance of deepening Africa–Asia ties, especially in sectors such as infrastructure, technology, clean energy and investment flows, aligning with South Africa’s goal of bolstering growth and job creation.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s summit hosts welcomed the inclusion of African nations as part of their broader outreach to diversify partnerships.

The President’s delegation is expected to present a series of memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and business frameworks following his visit, paving the way for enhanced bilateral cooperation between South Africa and Southeast Asia.
