South Africa bids a final farewell today to beloved media personality, businessman, and activist Warrick “DJ Warras” Stock, who will be laid to rest in Johannesburg following his tragic shooting death last week in the city’s central business district.

DJ Warras, aged 40, was fatally shot on December 16, 2025, in broad daylight outside the Zambezi House building near the Carlton Centre. The incident occurred while he was reportedly assisting with security operations related to a court-ordered eviction at a hijacked property—a cause he had passionately championed in his public life. He leaves behind three young sons, his mother, and extended family, as well as a grieving entertainment industry that has described him as a fearless voice, mentor, and connector of people.

A memorial service held on December 19 in Sandton drew an outpouring of tributes from celebrities, colleagues, and political figures, including DJ Fresh, Pearl Thusi, Gareth Cliff, and ministers Gayton McKenzie and Mmusi Maimane, who hailed him as a trailblazer in radio, television, podcasting, and club DJing.

As the nation reflects on his legacy, Gauteng police have announced a significant breakthrough in the investigation. Two suspects were arrested in Soweto in the early hours of December 22 and have been charged with murder. The pair are scheduled to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, December 24, with searches continuing for any additional individuals involved.

DJ Warras was known for his bold commentary on Johannesburg’s urban challenges, particularly the crisis of hijacked buildings in areas like Hillbrow. In an exclusive interview with SABC reporter Thato Letsaba in July 2025, he vividly described Hillbrow as a “jungle,” highlighting the dangers and decay plaguing the inner city—issues he actively worked to address through his private security business, Imperium Ops.

Funeral proceedings today mark the end of a week of national mourning for a man who brought light, laughter, and strength to countless lives. His family and friends have expressed gratitude for the widespread support during this difficult time.
