Victor Mthethwa Majola, 44, made his first court appearance at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, facing charges of premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the fatal shooting of media personality and security consultant Warrick “DJ Warras” Stock.

Stock, a beloved radio DJ and television personality, was gunned down on 16 December outside Zambesi House in Johannesburg’s CBD, where he was providing security services related to the enforcement of evictions in hijacked buildings.

Majola, who appeared limping and initially attempted to cover his face with a scarf and jacket hood, was ordered by the magistrate to reveal his face for identification. Through his attorney, he alleged that he had been assaulted by police following his arrest on Monday, claiming serious injuries requiring medical attention.

The State confirmed it would strongly oppose any bail application, describing the charges as a Schedule 6 offence carrying a potential life sentence. The case was postponed to 6 January 2026 for address verification and a formal bail hearing.

A second suspect, initially arrested alongside Majola, had charges provisionally withdrawn. Police investigations continue, with reports indicating CCTV footage shows multiple individuals involved, including one with dreadlocks. Authorities are still pursuing additional suspects.

The murder has sparked widespread outrage, highlighting ongoing issues with building hijackings and violence in Johannesburg’s inner city.

Majola remains in custody over the festive season as the probe into the targeted killing deepens.
