The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed that the prosecutor accused of contempt of court after failing to appear during proceedings in Mpumalanga will meet with the Director of Public Prosecutions to address the matter.

Prosecutor Mkhuseli Ntaba failed to appear on Monday during bail proceedings in an extortion and money laundering case involving taxi bosses Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni, Bafana Sindane, and two other accused.

His absence led to the matter being struck off the roll, while the court subsequently issued a warrant of arrest after he was found in contempt for failing to comply with an instruction to return to court at 9am.

Chief Magistrate Tule-tu Tonjeni authorised the warrant after Ntaba did not appear as ordered.

The NPA later confirmed it had been unable to trace or contact the prosecutor following his disappearance from court proceedings.

The developments have triggered widespread speculation, with reports of alleged threats linked to officials involved in the case, though details have not been officially confirmed.

The NPA says internal processes are now underway, and Ntaba is expected to meet senior prosecutorial leadership in Mpumalanga as the matter is reviewed.
