The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has indicated that security measures may be put in place for IDAC prosecutor Drushanta Ramsamy following her explosive testimony, which raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the prosecution of senior Crime Intelligence officials.
Commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels said Ramsamy’s security would be assessed through a formal risk and threat analysis, with appropriate protection provided if required.
“As you know, we do not discuss the details of security arrangements, but where necessary — and this is informed by a proper risk and threat assessment — the commission or the employer of those individuals will provide the necessary security,” Michaels said.
Ramsamy appeared before the commission on Thursday, where she detailed concerns about IDAC’s decision to arrest and prosecute Crime Intelligence head Dumisani Khumalo and head of technical support services Dineo Mokwele.
She told the inquiry that the process contained several irregularities.
Her testimony also included a recording of a phone conversation with former IDAC head Andrea Johnson, in which Johnson made critical remarks about the commission and questioned the conduct of its commissioners.
Johnson could also be heard using profane language while expressing her views about the inquiry.
Ramsamy is expected to continue her testimony before the commission on Tuesday.
