Stellenbosch FC have confirmed the return of striker Ashley Du Preez, who has rejoined the club on a permanent transfer from Kaizer Chiefs ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The 29-year-old returns to the Winelands a decade after featuring in Stellenbosch’s first-ever National First Division match and four years after leaving the club to join Kaizer Chiefs ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
During his first spell at the club, the Idas Valley-born forward made 98 appearances in all competitions between 2016 and 2022, establishing himself as one of Stellenbosch’s standout performers. He went on to help Kaizer Chiefs win the 2025 Nedbank Cup during his time at Naturena.
Speaking after completing his return, Du Preez said rejoining Stellenbosch had always been part of his plans.
“I always knew that I would come back to Stellenbosch. It’s great to be back where I grew up and at the club where it all started for me, and to be part of the Stellenbosch family again.
“The community knows me well and has supported me since the start of my professional career, so being a local player and representing the club again is a huge honour and privilege for me. It’s an amazing feeling to be back.”
Stellenbosch FC Chief Executive Officer Rob Benadie welcomed the experienced forward back to the club, saying his return will strengthen the squad both on and off the pitch.
“Ashley has always had a special relationship with this club and the Stellenbosch community, so we are incredibly excited to bring him home.
“He is an exceptional footballer who has consistently proven his quality in the Betway Premiership over a number of years, and we believe he will add enormous value to our squad both on and off the field,” Benadie said.
Du Preez has been handed the club’s No. 10 jersey for the 2026/27 season and could make his second debut when Stellenbosch host Polokwane City in their Betway Premiership opener on 11 August.
