Arsenal have made a strong start to their Premier League title defence after cruising to a 3-0 victory over newly promoted Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium on Friday night.

The defending champions took control early, with Kai Havertz opening the scoring after 14 minutes before Bukayo Saka doubled Arsenal’s advantage nine minutes later.

Captain Martin Ødegaard added a third just three minutes into the second half, completing a comfortable victory and sending Arsenal to the top of the Premier League table.

Tzolis Impresses on Emirates Debut

Summer signing Christos Tzolis was one of Arsenal’s standout performers on his full Emirates Stadium debut.

The winger, who provided two assists during Arsenal’s Community Shield victory over Manchester City, played a key role in both first-half goals.

Havertz opened the scoring after Tzolis won possession high up the pitch. Riccardo Calafiori then picked out the German forward, who calmly fired a first-time finish into the bottom corner.

Arsenal doubled their advantage midway through the first half when Tzolis delivered a low cross that Coventry goalkeeper Carl Rushworth could only push back into the danger area. Saka reacted quickest to tap the ball home.

Ødegaard completed the scoring shortly after half-time following another impressive move involving Saka and Ben White.

White’s cutback found the Arsenal captain, whose effort took an awkward deflection before spinning into the net.

Tzolis came close to adding a fourth but was denied by Rushworth before being substituted to a warm reception from the home supporters.

Arteta Reaches 150 Premier League Wins

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta used the second half to manage the game, introducing World Cup winners Martin Zubimendi and Mikel Merino as the Gunners comfortably saw out the victory.

The result marked a significant personal milestone for Arteta, who recorded his 150th Premier League victory as a manager.

He became only the fifth manager to reach the milestone in fewer than 250 matches.

Arsenal also extended their impressive home record against newly promoted sides, remaining unbeaten in their last 46 Premier League home matches against promoted opposition.

The Gunners will now have a 10-day break before travelling to Aston Villa on Monday, August 31, for their first away league match of the season.

Arsenal will then welcome Chelsea to the Emirates on September 6, before beginning their Champions League campaign the following week.
