The South African Postbank has urged the remaining SASSA gold card holders to migrate to black cards before the 31 August deadline.
Postbank reminded beneficiaries that the migration deadline will not be extended beyond the set date.
More than 1.8 million recipients have successfully replaced their cards since the migration process began in 2025, leaving fewer than 80,000 beneficiaries who still need to make the switch.
Most of the outstanding beneficiaries are in KwaZulu-Natal (20,000), the Western Cape (17,000), the Eastern Cape (15,000) and Gauteng (14,000).
Postbank Chief Commercial Officer Thami Cele urged beneficiaries not to delay, saying additional operational measures had been put in place at card replacement sites to accommodate increased demand in the final days of the migration process.
“Social grant beneficiaries will be assisted. Postbank has put in place additional operational measures across its card replacement sites to accommodate the expected increase in beneficiaries during the final days of the card migration process,” said Cele.
Postbank also clarified what will happen to beneficiaries who miss the deadline.
Cele said grant payments would still be deposited into the accounts of beneficiaries who had not migrated by 31 August. However, those beneficiaries would have to complete the migration to a black card before they could access their funds.
Postbank reminded beneficiaries that the card migration process is free of charge. A valid South African ID or temporary ID is required to complete the process.
