Police have launched a manhunt for a 41-year-old man wanted in connection with the brutal murder of three people in Moeka Vuma, near Makapanstad, in the North West.

The suspect, James Mohajane, is wanted in connection with the alleged killings of his girlfriend, Moipone Lefoka, her sister, Esther Lefoka, and Esther’s boyfriend, Tshepo Molekwa.

According to police, the three victims were last seen together at Molekwa’s home.

Their bodies were discovered at the house on Sunday morning. Police allege that the victims had been hacked to death with a spade.

Mohajane was reportedly not at the property when police arrived. However, officers found his cellphone at the crime scene.

The circumstances surrounding the killings remain under investigation, and police have not yet established a motive.

Police appeal for information

The South African Police Service (SAPS) is appealing to members of the public who may have information about Mohajane’s whereabouts to come forward.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Sergeant Nhlapo on 078 918 7746.

Police have cautioned members of the public not to approach or confront the suspect if they believe they have located him. Instead, they should immediately contact the police and provide the relevant information.

The triple murder has renewed concerns around violent crime and gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF), particularly crimes involving women and vulnerable people.

SAPS says it remains committed to intensifying efforts to prevent and combat GBVF and violent crime.

Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and establish the circumstances that led to the deaths of the three victims.
