Police have appealed to the person or people responsible for the killings of women in Gauteng to hand themselves over after the body of another woman was discovered in Dawn Park, Boksburg, on Thursday.
The discovery brings to nine the number of women whose bodies have been found in recent incidents across parts of Gauteng.
Acting Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana visited the scene after a community member alerted police to the body, which had been dumped in an open space.
“On arrival, to our horror, we found a body of a lady aged about 30 years old,” Kekana said.
He said the woman was partially naked and had a wound to her neck.
“She was left wearing only her underwear. She had a stab wound on the side; her throat looks like it was slit,” he said.
Kekana urged residents to come forward with any information that could help investigators identify the woman and trace the person or people responsible.
“Those who might have seen something or know something in regards to this incident and other incidents, come forward to the police,” he said.
The latest discovery comes as police investigate a series of cases involving women whose bodies have been found dumped at different locations across Gauteng.
Investigators have yet to establish whether the cases are linked.
Kekana also warned the public against circulating old photographs and misleading claims on social media, saying this was hampering efforts to establish the facts.
“There is a trend that is happening of people showing pictures of old incidents. They post them on social media and say, ‘Here are the bodies found in Potchefstroom,’” he said.
Police have appealed to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact the authorities.
