Police in Rustenburg have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a woman’s body in Tlhabane township.

The victim, initially unidentified, was reportedly found by a Bolt driver on the side of Nkosi Street, who alerted the police.

Rustenburg police spokesperson Warrant Officer Ofentse Mokgadi said the woman had sustained multiple stab wounds and was certified dead at the scene.

“The woman, who appeared to be 30 years old, was found with multiple stab wounds and certified dead at the scene. The deceased was initially unidentified.

“However, on Thursday, 17 September 2026, she was positively identified as Refilwe Matsila by her family at the Phokeng Mortuary, accompanied by Detective Sergeant Thabo Seome,” said Mokgadi.

Police said the circumstances surrounding the murder remain under investigation and that no suspect has been arrested.

Meanwhile, Acting District Commissioner Brigadier Mamotsamai Ntoagae condemned the killing and appealed to members of the community to provide any information that could assist police in identifying and arresting the suspect.

Police are urging anyone with information about the murder to come forward.
