A 52-year-old South African man has been arrested at OR Tambo International Airport after police allegedly found suspected heroin worth more than R2 million in his luggage.
Police said the suspect arrived from Accra, Ghana, on Sunday, 20 September 2026, when he was intercepted by officers at the airport.
A search of his luggage allegedly uncovered bullet-like objects and several blocks containing substances suspected to be heroin.
Police spokesperson Amanda van Wyk said the arrest is the third drug-related arrest at the airport in the past three weeks.
“The 52-year-old South African national had just arrived on a flight from Accra, Ghana, when police intercepted him at the airport on Sunday, 20 September 2026,” van Wyk said.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court later this week to face drug trafficking-related charges.
Police said investigations into the matter are continuing.
