Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of the ninth woman whose body was found in Dawn Park, Boksburg, amid a series of killings of women under investigation in Gauteng.
The suspects — one man and two women — were arrested over the weekend by members of the Gauteng Murder and Robbery Unit.
They are expected to appear before the Boksburg Park Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
The Dawn Park victim was found in an open area in the Boksburg suburb on 17 September. Police previously said the woman, believed to be about 30 years old, had suffered severe injuries.
The latest arrests come as police continue investigating all nine murder cases involving women whose bodies were discovered at different locations across Gauteng in recent weeks.
Acting National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, says all nine cases are receiving priority attention.
“We remain committed to ensuring that these investigations are pursued with the urgency and determination they require,” Dimpane said.
“Our investigators are following all available leads and are working tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice.”
SAPS says further details about the Dawn Park murder case are expected to be ventilated in court during the suspects’ appearance.
The arrests mark the first reported breakthrough in the investigation into the ninth victim.
