RISE Mzansi has taken its campaign to Johannesburg’s Kwa Mai Mai traditional market, using Heritage Day to canvass for support ahead of the November 4 Local Government Elections.
The party, which is contesting local government elections for the first time, is seeking to make inroads in the City of Johannesburg, where several political parties are vying for control of the country’s economic hub.
RISE Mzansi Johannesburg mayoral candidate Lukhona Mnguni called on residents to give the party an opportunity to govern the city and elect more of its councillors.
Mnguni said the party wants to secure enough seats in the City of Johannesburg to play a role in the next administration.
“What we are asking the residents of Joburg is to give us many, many RISE Mzansi councillors in the City of Joburg,” Mnguni said.
RISE Mzansi National Chairperson Vuyiswa Ramokgopa joined Mnguni at Kwa Mai Mai as the party stepped up its election campaign.
Ramokgopa said the party was using the campaign to demonstrate the type of leadership it wants to bring to Johannesburg.
“We are showing them the kind of leadership that we want,” she said.
Johannesburg is expected to be one of the key battlegrounds in the November elections, with multiple parties seeking to secure enough support to influence the composition of the next city administration.
RISE Mzansi’s campaign comes as political parties intensify their voter mobilisation efforts across Johannesburg, with candidates seeking support in communities, businesses and public spaces ahead of polling day.
