The bail application of suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya continued at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, with his legal representative reading an affidavit from his wife, Zizakele Dlamini.
The affidavit contains allegations of threats allegedly made by “Mr M”, the father of one of the teenagers who opened a case against Sibiya.
According to Dlamini’s affidavit, Mr M allegedly indicated that he would provide authorities with information relating to various cases, people who had disappeared, alleged criminal activities, as well as senior officials and politicians.
The affidavit also sets out the contents of an audio recording in which Mr M allegedly says:
“I’m going to have to give them every information pertaining to all the cases, all people who disappeared, all pack-mantel involvement, and all the senior officials, politicians.”
The statement is contained in the affidavit. The audio recording itself was not played in court.
Dlamini’s affidavit further alleges that Mr M had expressed fears that someone would kill him and refers to an alleged incident in January.
The defence is relying on the affidavit as part of its arguments in Sibiya’s formal bail application.
Sibiya faces charges including rape, the sexual grooming of a 16-year-old, human trafficking and a firearm-related offence.
He denies all the allegations.
The State is opposing bail.
The bail proceedings are continuing at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.
