Fresh from their 2-0 victory over Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 final, Mamelodi Sundowns will turn their attention to extending their lead at the top of the Betway Premiership when they take on Richards Bay tonight.
The Brazilians head into the encounter at the summit of the league standings with 20 points from eight matches, having recorded six wins and two draws. They sit one point ahead of second-placed Orlando Pirates, who have collected 19 points from seven games.
Sundowns will be looking to strengthen their position at the top with a victory against Richards Bay, who are struggling near the bottom of the table.
The Natal Rich Boys have collected three points from seven matches and will be desperate to turn their fortunes around against the defending league champions.
The match kicks off at 19:30 at Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban.
Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs have put the final touches on their preparations for their Betway Premiership clash against Stellenbosch FC at FNB Stadium on Tuesday night.
The fixture comes after a three-week pause brought about by FIFA-sanctioned international matches, with Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz saying the break provided the squad with an opportunity to rest and work on key aspects of their game.
The Glamour Boys face a demanding October schedule, with five matches in 17 days across the league, the CAF Confederation Cup, the Carling Knockout and the highly anticipated Soweto Derby.
“We are happy to be back on the field and look forward to an intense month that includes travel to Zambia and Durban. But it’s important to focus on one game at a time,” Da Cruz said.
He added that the week was also special for club chairman Dr Kaizer Motaung, who celebrates his birthday, and urged the team to deliver positive results.
“We must make sure we show up and give him the best birthday present by performing well in the upcoming games, starting with Tuesday’s match against Stellenbosch,” he said.
Da Cruz acknowledged that Stellenbosch would pose a challenge, with both teams eager to collect maximum points.
“We know it’s not going to be an easy match because they want the three points as much as we do. We have worked hard as a team and planned thoroughly for this match against Stellenbosch,” he added.
Chiefs are fourth on the league table with 13 points from seven matches, while Stellenbosch occupy seventh position with eight points from the same number of games.
The encounter kicks off at 19:30 at FNB Stadium.
