The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has confirmed that its fuel-card crisis has been fully resolved, with all cards now unblocked and functioning normally.

According to the JMPD, the issue affected all departmental vehicles after fuel cards were suspended because of outstanding payments to filling stations.

“The temporary blockage was not an internal JMPD issue, but rather an administrative matter at City level during a transitional arrangement between the City of Johannesburg and the service provider.

“The JMPD emphasises that no operational activities or law enforcement deployments were affected or compromised during this transitional period.

“The situation was managed internally to ensure that visible policing and emergency responses continued without disruption,” said JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla.

Fihla highlighted that standard fuel-saving measures, internal fleet controls and vehicle monitoring remained in place to promote responsible municipal management, while law enforcement operations continued smoothly across all regions.

“Residents are assured that JMPD officers remain on the ground, continuously enforcing traffic regulations, municipal by-laws and crime prevention measures.

“High-visibility patrols and targeted operations remain active across the city, with a particular focus on identified crime hotspots and key areas of concern,” Fihla added.
