The Patriotic Alliance (PA) has taken control of Prince Albert Municipality in the Western Cape, overtaking the Democratic Alliance (DA) following the completion of vote counting in the 2026 Local Government Elections.
With 100% of the votes counted, the PA secured almost 49% of the vote, pushing the DA into second place, followed by the African National Congress (ANC).
The result marks a significant increase in support for the PA compared with the 2021 Local Government Elections, when the party finished third with just 14% of the vote.
Meanwhile, newcomers ActionSA have emerged as the leading party in Laingsburg, securing 26% of the vote after contesting the municipality for the first time.
The DA and ANC followed closely behind ActionSA in Laingsburg, with all votes counted.
In Beaufort West, the third municipality in the Central Karoo District, counting was still under way, with 33% of the votes counted at the time of reporting. The DA was leading, followed by the ANC and the PA.
In the Little Karoo, the Independent Civic Organisation of South Africa (ICOSA) was leading in Kannaland with 27% of the vote, with 100% of the votes counted.
However, ICOSA’s support has declined compared with the 2021 elections, when it won the municipality.
The DA and PA were in second and third places, respectively.
Meanwhile, vote counting was still under way in Oudtshoorn, where the DA was leading, followed by the ANC and the PA.
Beaufort West and Oudtshoorn were among the municipalities where final results were still awaited.
