However, the businesses accused the power utility of overbilling because it uses faulty metres to determine the amount of electricity used by the entities.

One of the businesses whose services were disconnected, is the Catalyst Hotel in Sandton.

The hotel General Manager Robert Chifunyise blamed the incorrect meter box for not paying his bills.

“We hired so many consultants trying to figure this out that we have paid in the past. We have documents to prove that we have paid over R3 million in the last year.

“We pay R600 000 a month as much as we dispute the money they say we owe we can’t get anywhere,” he said.

The technicians accompanied by the JMPD officers also cut connections at the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The officials shut doors to their unexpected visitors.

But the police then proceeded to cut-off the power supply.

City Power Spokesperson Isaac Mangena said the Consulate owed them R600 000.

Other residents in Atholl were also cut off.

“We are dealing with internal issues with the billing system when we say customers owe us certain amounts of money, we are able to authenticate the money they owe us,” he said.

Today the plan is to raid Alexandra small businesses.

“We are going for the businesses that can afford to pay, I’m talking about your taverns, carwash and salons”

The entity is hoping to recoup at least R363 million of the R4 billion rands owed to it by its customers.
