DStv Premiership outfit Richards Bay FC have sacked their head coach, Kaitano Tembu.

This was announced by the relegation-threatened club in a brief statement on Christmas Day.

“Richards Bay Football Club would like to announce the release of Head Coach Mr. Kaitano Tembo with immediate effect. The club would like to thank the coach for his contribution during this season. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours,” read a statement from the club.

The statement also added that senior coach Vusi Vilakazi will take over the first team until further notice. Tembo took the reins ahead of the 2023/24 season at the KwaZulu-Natal based outfit.

The Natal Rich Boyz, as the club is commonly known, is currently sitting at 15th position in the log standings with ten points, just six points above Cape Town Spurs, who are at the bottom of the log.

In the 18 games during his charge, he only managed to secure four victories, four draws and 10 losses. The recent 1-0 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs seems to be the last straw that broke the camel’s back.

Despite the mediocre performance in the log, the club managed to reach the semi-finals of the Carling Knockout Cup, losing to eventual winners, Stellenbosch FC. Tembo previously coached Sekhukhune United and SuperSport United.
