The 14th witness and forensic expert, Thabo Mosia told the court in the Senzo Meyiwa trial he kept evidence found at the crime scene in a safe at work and only booked it in the following morning.
Mosia wrapped up his testimony about how the crime scene where Meyiwa, the Bafana Bafana was shot got processed and how the evidence was stored.
Defence lawyers, Advocate Zandile Masholo quizzed Mosia about how he stored the evidence that was found.
“It means the whole night after the exhibits were recovered from the scene, they were with you,” asked Mshololo.
“They were under my watch or I was responsible for them and I was at home and these exhibits were at the office at my place of work,” said Mosia who admitted the evidence found on the crime scene was booked only the following morning.
When Mshololo probed further, Mosia said the evidence was entered into police records the following day at about 8:30 in the morning.
The defense lawyers are arguing that the crime scene was not properly handled by the police and as a result it was contaminated.
Masholo also wanted to know why Meyiwa’s car was not scrubbed for evidence but Mosia said he didn’t see a need to do that.
The five men on trial for Meyiwa’s killing are charged with premeditated murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli pleaded not guilty to all charges
Mthobisi Prince Mncube, has pleaded guilty and was convicted for unlawful possession of a firearm but not guilty to other charges.
